Show 5005 Johnson- D 3018 A Twenty- one days in making the trip from Lees Ferry to Bull Frog, which is about one hundred and thirty- five miles. Q Were you able to row the boats? A Between the riffles we were able to row the boats at short intervals; of course there was always sandbars and rocks projecting out of the riffles that we had to encounter. Q After you made the delivery of the boats up there, how did you return to Lees Ferry? A They secured two old boats there, and sent us back down the river. Q What kind of boats did you have going back? A Just common row boats, home- made boats, made on the river out of common lumber, open; one was a little larger than the other. I think the larger one was about eighteen feet and the smaller probably fourteen feet. Row boats. Q Do you recall the month and year this was done? A I remember we left right after Christmas, soon after Christmas. Q Do you recall the year? A 1898. Q Could you tell me how long the trip down stream took? A About two days. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Two days, you say? A Yes sir. |
