Show 4949 Edwards- D 2962 Q And at times did you go up and down the river? A We used the boat as a means of transportation, to take us to our work up and down the river. Q Which boat did you use, do you remember, on that trip? A We used a motor boat, the Riff Climber, and in one or two instances a row boat to go short distances. Q Do you recall whether or not those surveys of the permits were completed on that first trip? A On those two permits the work that we started to do that time was completed, that is, the retracement of the permits as defined by the existing corners. We later did further work on that. Q Did you encounter any difficulties in the operation of the boats while you were making this survey? A Running on to sandbars. Q And at what time did you encounter these sandbars? A In going across the river from No. 1 to points west -- or south of the river, we had continual difficulty there; bars seem to change at that point, which was know as the San Juan landing, possibly more frequently than any other place that we encountered; sometimes it was necessary to go a mile down the river and come back up a channel on the south side of the river, because it was impossible to get through on account of |
