Show 5023 Johnson- C 3036 went up to Bull Frog, did they remain there, or come back with you? A They came back; all came back. Q What was the purpose of that trip, Mr. Johnson? A Mr. Stanton was operating or planning on operating some dredges on the Colorado river and mining some placer gold in the bed of the river. After he had got these boats and part of the supplies there, he changed his mind, and decided to move his camp up to a short distance above what is known as Hall's Crossing, about one hundred and thirty- five miles. Q Did you party assist in the operation when you got up there before returning? A No. We landed the boats and rested up one day, and returned the next. Q Was the stage of water about the same during that entire trip up and down? A Very little different. At that time of year there was no melting snow, or no rains to speak of. Q So that the water up and down was about the same stage? A Yes sir, wasn't much change. Q As I recall your testimony, you made that one hundred and thirty- five miles back to Lees Ferry down stream in two days? A Yes sir. Q You didn't get hung up very long on any sandbars, then, did you? |
