FARNSWORTH: Mr. Burdick says is a copy of what he wrote. THE SPECIAL MASTER: This is Exhibit 471? MR. BLACKMAR: Yes sir. Letter addressed to Mr. Jerry Johnson at Lees Ferry. ( Reads:) " Recently Mr. Spencer of Los Angeles informed me that you had first- hand knowledge of the construction and operation of a large steam boat and a thirty- foot launch which was operating various times between Lees Ferry and the mouth of the San Juan. " I am representing the State of Utah in the field preparation of their defense in the case of United State versus the state, and involving operation of boats on the Colorado, Green and San Juan rivers. " Will you please write me, outlining your experience on any of these rivers, and particularly your knowledge of boats which works between the Ferry and the San Juan.
