Show 5013 Johnson- D 3026 A They had two little small boats we used right around the ferry there. Not of any consequence. Q What kind of material were they constructed out of? A One was a metal boat; the other was a wooden boat. Small engines, not more than ten horsepower. Q Do you know what became of those boats? A They went down the river; got away, and went down the river. Q Beg pardon? A Got away, and went down the river. Q Did I understand that you were on these trips of the Charles Spencer? A Only accompanied them part way up. Q Where did you join up with them? A I run the ferry there, and I couldn't leave long; I would see them off, and go a ways with them, and come back and look after the ferry. I was running the ferry then, for Charles H. Spencer. He had the contract to run the ferry. Q How far up the stream did you go with the Charles H. Spencer? A Four or five miles. Q During the four or five miles that you went up stream with this boat, did you encounter any difficulties? A Yes; set three days one time on the sand. |
