Show 5006 Johnson- D 3019 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Do you know anything about a bout called the Charles H. Spencer? A Yes sir. Q Did you ever have anything to do with the operation of the Charles H. Spencer? A Some, a little. Q Just tell me about it, please. A Well, they used it for the purpose of pushing barges from Lees Ferry to warm creek, for the purpose of hauling coal; they would push the barges up, then load the barges and drift them down. I never made a trip from the Ferry to warm creek on this boat only at the start- out, to help them get started, but I had some experiences with some other boats. But this particular boat I remember helping with the boat after they got to the ferry, the unloading and landing and the like of that. Q Do you recall how many trips the Charles H. Spencer made? A They built it at Warm Creek, came down to the ferry and back to warm creek. That was one trip. Down to the Ferry, and back to Warm creek, and down to the Ferry and tied it up, and that was the last it was ever used. It sunk. I saw it sink. |
