If it was a located land, it would bear the letter L on the stake. Q Wasn't this drawn after actual survey on the ground? A Absolutely, but a preliminary survey. Q Why a preliminary survey? A It would take me back into civil engineering to explain the difference between a preliminary and located survey. A preliminary survey is a continuation of angled lines from which topography is taken, and later on a projected line is taken off of that from the map, as this is, which contains the curves of the survey. A preliminary doesn't take in the curves, neither does it take in all of the irregularity of the surface of the ground. It is the basis for a location survey. Q The survey that you made was merely an approximation of the route; is that right? A No sir. Q It was of the route as it would actually be made? A With changes as shown on the map, with the necessary changes to permit of curvature and grade. Q Was there anything further to be done by survey after this map? A There would have been preceding construction, have to stake that location, cross- section for estimate and for |
