Show 5007 Johnson- D 3020 Q That was two and a half trips? A Yes sir. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Two trips up and two trips down? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Did you see this barge that was used in connection with the Charles H. Spencer? A The barge they built for that purpose go away and went down the river, and they used the ferry boat; let them have the ferry boat. Wasn't much travel at that time. The mountains were covered with snow and mud, and wasn't much travel in that year, so we let them take the ferry boat for a trip. Q Did you see, the two times that this boat came in, how much coal was loaded on the Spencer? A They had five tons on the steam boat down in the hull, down underneath the floor; that was never unloaded by the Spencer Company. They used the coal for their boilers that they hauled on the barges, but they used that coal -- took some of it out before the boat sank and used it for blacksmith purposes, and people hauled it off, and some sank with the boat, about five tons altogether. Q About how much coal was brought down on the ferry boat? |
