Show 4856 Taylor- C 2869 A I can not describe them very well. I just have a recollection as to seeing them raft this lumber down. I don't know how they were built, or anything about it. They just floated the lumber down. Q Were they large rafts? A Yes, they seemed large to me. Q What is your best recollection of the size of the rafts? A Oh, it would be hard for me to say. Q I realize it is a difficult question, Mr. Taylor. If you could just give us some idea. We appreciate you might be off several feet in your estimate. A I would say they would be forty or fifty feet in length, maybe; maybe more. Q And how wide, approximately? A Approximately half that wide, possibly. Q And would the cargo of lumber extend for quite a little distance above the top of the raft? A Yes, I think a little. I don't think they contained a great lot of lumber; that is, I think there were several thousand feet, I imagine. About the easiest way they had to get that lumber down the river; very had road. Q Would the cargo extend a couple of feet, say, above the top of the raft? A I imagine it would, a foot or two. Q Would there be a man in charge of the raft? |
