Show of Ute life at all hours of the day and night. Mari Ann signs with a bit more force - a kind of clear-cut get it done NOW characterization; but to those of us who know her handwriting there exists a strange softness beneath the force- a softness that lends itself to immaculately rhythmical sentences, to amazingly sensitive mood copy, to love and marriage in the middle of the year and return to diligence in the office. Then there was a faintly reminiscent signature. For three years Don has left a characterization of himself in writing that contains much that both explains and endears him to the staff of the '6$ Utonian: always in ink, always rapid, sprawling, with the rigidity of a "topological" mathematical instinct and the grace of art and humanities overlaid with quick wit. Too deep, really, to be explored, the signature, like the man, is just THERE to help, or to be enjoyed, or both. To these special people a thank you for signing with us. And to those who backed up those signatures- the staff - another thank you: for early mornings and late nights, for bridge and coke, editorials and games, effort, pranks, pictures, kindness, and copy. For minds, hearts, personalities, all willing, all very necessary. To Harold at Ecker's, to Peggy and Max at Wheelwright Press, still another thank you - for helping to make abstract symbols concrete signs. After compiling such a list one would almost be compelled to sign on again if he weren't a senior and signing out. |
