Show ELECTIONS: voting machines reduce polling headaches II The donation of a dozen metallic gray voting machines marked the pace of elections this year. For the first time polling took place in one central location, the Union Building, and the row of twelve machines gave zero delays and reduced violations in the ASUU elections. Gone were the three-thirty a.m. counting sessions and the headache of recounting sessions, and since the machines each weighed over seven hundred pounds, ballot stealing was impossible. The previously stringent rules governing elections were liberalized by Elections Committee to allow more creative, candid expression in the elections. Posters splattered the campus in their usual unusual design and humor. April 17th and 18th the primary polling pulled the candidate roster to thirty-four hopefuls and seventeen offices were elected in the final election, April 24th and 25th. Coinciding with the first day of finals, Choice '68 (National Collegiate Presidential Primary) polled the campus preference concerning the candidates to the presidency of US and issues concerning Vietnam. 47 |
