Show WELCOME WEEK introduces the U of U multiversity 1967 saw Welcome Week move from the week before school to the first week of classes. A barbecue on Monday night opened the festivities, followed by open houses on Tuesday, designed to introduce freshmen and transfers to the University's diverse religious and social organizations. Warmed up to the occasion by Wednesday, many of the frosh followed the I K s up the mountain to spread a new coat of white wash over the summer dirt covering the block "U", while those who were "a little worried about their future" joined the newly-instituted tours through the inner workings of Merrill Engineering Building. Graduate students and faculty members introduced potential engineers to the facilities available in the building, including lasers, a linear accelerator, a new Univac 1108, and Francy. Wednesday evening featured an AWS fashion show for the girls and chalk talk with Coach Giddings for the fellows. The week ended on a successful note Saturday evening when 1200 jammed the Union Ballroom to dance to the rhythms of the Entertainers. ABOVE: New Utes enjoy Welcome Week's barbecue.
