Show TRACK TEAM sets '68 records in two-mile run, shot put, 440 hurdles Track at the University of Utah in 1968 leaped its way across an amazing field of events, setting a pace that was rigorous in its gait. Coached by Pete Carlston, Utes set record after record during the season including a new record set by Sal Mendoza in the mile run, Dwight Staten in the shot put, Don Was-som in the long jump and Hugh Voorhees in the 440 hurdles. The combined efforts of Larry Stott, Darryl Busby, Scott Peterson, and Bob Batie resulted in a mile relay team that shone in 1968 Western Athletic Conference meets. Utah's 1967 cross country team climaxed an undefeated dual meet season by placing tenth in the National Cross Country Championships and sported Scott Bringhurst. Bringhurst won All-American honors and posted a new Utah record in the two-mile run proving to be Utah's best distance runner. 98 Ute thinclad hurddler Jim Hawkins clears hurdle in practice for WAC meet. |
