Show UTONIAN survives flood; salvages soggy negatives Bonnie's plans slowly found their way onto paper, thence to galleys and finally to blueprints. The details of the journey - blocked copy and full sentence heads on every page - fell one by one under the scrutiny of our first honest to goodness copy editor in years, Mari Ann Billhymer. Rewriting copy and tailoring or rejecting headlines ("Graduate School Gets Wilhelmsen"), the Utonian first lady of verse performed valiantly even while falling into the pit of matrimony in February. But Marty Pearlman's gain was also the Utonian's gain when the powers that be brought Mary Beth Crawford into the fold to assist in and eventually assume a major part of the copy writing chores. Bill Whitaker kept the staff on pins and needles with his groovy artwork, and George "Noah" Goebel perservered many a darkroom adversity as he and his staff supplied our most important product: pictures. Pictures, those great educational toys. The staff discovered what could be done with photographic collages, especially what Bob Rumel could do with a photographic collage. Sue Likins learned what could be found in the lower right corner of a Pi Kap picture, and Cathy Van Harten found that table tops are nice places to sort class pictures - when the windows are shut. Jill Wonnacott never got a chance to learn about pictures. Nobody knew where her pictures were. But luckily everyone always knew where Jean Eliason was: Delta, Utah. The Utonian office itself was a cosmopolitan home. It housed not one but three publications, or at least a business manager who wrote Chronicle editorials and two sports editors who compiled a sports car magazine. It was a very good year, 1968. Those who stayed around were glad they did. The old staff made their exit gracefully in May while the new walked in with optimistic apprehension. Enter J. W.
