In pursuing her avowed purpose Dr. Dorothy Snow feels that the greatest rewards of teaching are contacts with students and confrontation of the subject matter. An expert in the eighteenth century period of English literature, Dr. Snow feels that our experience in the second half of the twentieth century closely parallels the ideas and events of late-eighteenth century England. She shows her students that the same kinds of people walk the streets of Salt Lake City in 1968 as strolled near the Thames during the age of Pope, Swift, and Johnson. A member of the University faculty since 1924, Dr. Snow has known and taught more students of the Salt Lake valley than any other faculty member. She has inspired several generations of students by remaining active as both teacher and scholar. Dr. Kenneth Eble, Head of the English Department, says, "I have had numerous individuals say with pleasure: 'Dorothy Snow was my teacher.' " 127 |
