Show DORM LIFE creates a new home, new friends and new ideas Kii# w; iili m mm as©'- J8iS ^ A shriek from the end of the hall, a radio in the next room blaring full blast, a boisterous giggle from a roommate: these suggest the tone of life in a University of Utah residence hall. Approximately 1400 students, living in five dorms, experience all the pleasures and pains of living away from home and taking care of themselves. Unfortunately, from the point of view of many of these students, especially the men, this includes such things as washing and ironing. Each floor of each dorm provides a washer, dryer, and an ironing board. Some students even do their own cooking in the Van Cott Hall apartments where six girls live together and share housekeeping duties. The eager wait for mail delivery results in a favorite noon pastime - haunting the mailboxes in the office for news from home. Afternoon football games, furious ping-pong battles, engrossing hands of bridge or poker, or concentrated rounds of pool sample the activities available for dorm recreation. Dormitory life is indeed a many-splendored thing. B LINE CLOSED % • • NO SMOKING TOP LEFT: Meal lines never end in the Ball if cafeteria. MIDDLE: Fellows who date dorm girls must call-up the girls, not go to their doors. LEFT: Girls in the Van Cott apartments do their own cooking, washing, and housekeeping. 265 |
