ORCHESIS combines color, form, fluid movement The honorary dance organization for both dance and non-dance majors, Orchesis gives dance students a performing outlet on a semi-professional level. Rehearsed by professional dancers, Orchesis serves student choreographers by providing a company of dancers through which their works can be expressed. The major program of the year, Orchesis '68, March 8-9, featured both faculty and student choreographed dances. Faculty member Juan Valenzuela choreographed Sinner Man and Shapes of Dance, while Connie Jo Hepworth prepared Cirque, a dance featuring three huge circular props, and Things. Students Tim Wengerd and Christine Jeppson choreographed Poles and Flower Child respectively. A dance called Water Study rounded the selections. Meeting Wednesday nights, Orchesis members enjoyed guest lecturers and choreographers. Near the end of the year the group accepted two new members to bring its current membership to 48 dancers. 213 |
