L. viridis is characterized by its nue green colour, by its oval carapace covering less of the body than m L. angasi, and the edges of the lower half of its length being serrated ; L. angasi is distinguished by its horny colour, its rounded carapace Fig. E. n.s. Lepidurus viridulus. covering nearly two thirds of the body, and by the smooth edges of the sides of the carapace. " Carapace oblong, compressed, reniform, greatest height situated in the middle, and somewhat less than half the length; seen from the side the extremities are well rounded, the anterior somewhat the narrower of the two, dorsal margin almost flat or very slightly arched, ventral sinuated in the middle ; seen from above, compressed, ovate, twice as long as broad, widest in the middle, gradually tapered towards the anterior extremity, which is subacuminate, posterior extremity narrowed and rounded ; surface smooth and polished, the |
