This Panax {preadeth manyvery large winged leaves round about uponthe ground, moft of them two footlong, confifting of foure, five or fix couples of rongh winged leaves, fet each againft other on a round great footeftalk, furrowed onthe upper fide, each of them confifting likewife of three or foure couple of rough but largefaire freth yellowifh greene leaves& oneat the end, broad below,and narrow to the end,the one of the lower fides of the leafe,being alwayes deeper at the bottome then the other and finely dented about the edges, tafting a little hot and biting in the mouth,and yeelding forth a yellowith juice inthe Sommer much more gummy ,hot and bitter than the leaves;from among thefe leaves rifeth up one {trong great round gteene ftalk foure or five foote high or more, with fomejoynts and leaves thereat, and a few branches towards the toppés, where breake forth {mall yellow umbells of lowers, which afterwards give whitifh yellow flat fhort feede : the roote groweth fomewhatgreat and deepe downeinto the ground,with twoorthree long branches from it, whitifh yel- low on the outfide and more white within, full of that yellow fap iffuing from irif ic bee cut or broken,ofa little {troug fent and hotbitter tafte more then eyther leafe or feede : this defcription is from the plant growing in mine owne Garden whereit abideth the extreameft winter without harme. 3.
