Imperatoriafive Ajtrantia vulgaris, The common Matterwort. CommonMaifterwort hath divers{talkes of winged leaves, divided into fundry parts three for é the moft part ftanding together ata {mall footeftalke on both fides of the greater, and three likewife at the end ofthe ftalk,each of whichleaves are {omewhat broad & cut in on the edges into three or moredivifions and all of them befides dented about the brims, of a darke greene colour, and doe fomewhat refemble Angelica leaves at thefirlt fight, untill chey bee better regarded and that they grow lower tothe ground, and uponleffer ftalkes, among which rifeup two or three fhorc ftalkes in compariton of Angelica, being abont two foot high and flender,with fuch like leaves at the joynts as grow below,butleffer and with fewer divifions, bearing tite bells of white flowers,and after them{mall thinne flat blackith feede bigger then Dill feede: the roote is fomes what great and rather growethfidewife then downe deepe into the ground, fhooting forth fundry heads which tafteth fharpe biting onthe tongue, and is thehotteft and fharpeft part of any of the reft of the plant, and the feede next unto it, being fomewhat blackith on the outfide and {melling well. : Cwar.38. 943 The Theater ofPlants. 2, Imperatoria Alpina, Mountaine Maifterwort.
