The Fifth Bone ofthe upper Jaws: is compol‘ed of Two Bones The Fifth Bone of the upper Mandible ( according to Vefalim ) is compo- fed of Two Bones of the Nofe, the one isalittle, flender, oblong Bone, endued with a kind of triangular Figure; by reafon in its upper region it doth not terminate into an acute angle, but is {0 blunt, that it feemeth to be en- dued with a double angle, circumfcribed with a Suture, which difiinguiiheth the Bone of the Forehead from the upper Mandible. The ourlide of this Bone obtains a Suture (common to the Fourth Bone of the JaWe) which paffeth down the fide of the Nofe, according to the length of this Bone, which is much {horter in Man, then in Dogs and Apes. The infide of this Bone ( which is conjoyned to the Fourth Bone of the other fide) hath a Suture (much refembling a harmony) common to both Bones of the Nofe. This Suture ( taking its rife about the middle of the Eye- brows, fromaSuture, common to the Bone of the Forehead, and the upper Mandible ) palieth downward the length of the Bones of the NOE. In the Inferior part, the Fifth Bone is not divided by a Suture, nor conjoyned to another Bone; and being united to the Fifth Bone of the other fidEs is very rough and unequal in its fnrfaee, and terminates into a Cartilage, which groweth fofter toward the extremity of the Nofe. In its Anterior part and outlide, the Sixth Bone is terminated by a Suture, common to it and the Fourth Bone, pafling crofs-ways in the Pafierhe Interior region, where it is united to its pair ( feated in the other The Sixth Bone is joyned to the 0: Cuneiforme, the Fourth pair of Bones, and to the bridge of the Nofe, which is alfo fevered from the Sixth Bone by a Suture, which paffeth by the lower region of the bridge, as it hath been exprelfed before. |
