While he was attending the sale at Casper, Wyoming, and the San Angelo, Texas, Sale in the summer of 1953 he met and visited with Mr. Herbert McBride of Ohio who told him that he and Frank Swenson were expanding their sheep operation. They had been partners in a limited business but were then purchasing 4800 acres of rangeland near Mt, Pleasant that were formerly owned by W. D. Candland. Later conversations with Mr. McBride revealed that they would be interested in purchasing the John K. Madsen Farm if it ever hecame available. It was seldom that a purebred business changed hands, largely because of the many details and high overhead expenses Involved in the operation of it. A range herd of" sheep presented no such problem.
