Show ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I am indebted to the Sanpete County Recorder's Office in Manti, Utah, for information used in this account concerning properties acquired by John K. Madsen in that county. I am also indebted to the book published in 1939 called Mt. Pleasant, by Hilda M. Longsdorf, for material used as a setting for John K's life in his home town. For private interviews on matters of detail scattered throughout these pages I am indebted to W. C. Olsen and S. M. Nielsen who knew and associated with John K during many years of his life. My appreciation for courtesies extended by the personnel in the Office of the National Woaol Growers in Salt Lake City, during prolonged research on the establishment and continuity of the Ram Sales; the rise and fall of the lamb and wool markets, and for articles and editorials used mainly in Parts IV and V. Appreciation is also expressed for the book Rambouillet Sheep, published by the American Sheep Breeders Association in 1937, and for the anniversary edition of Men, Sheep, and 100 Years, published in January 1965 by the National Wool Growers Association. And finally, I appreciate the encouragement and insight I received from Edna J. Gregerson, instructor at Dixie College in St. George, Utah. And a big thanks to Teresa Bassett for her work in typing the final manuscript. iv |
