Show AFFILIATIONS The organizations in which John K chose to seek membership were those that he felt would assist him in becoming a more qualified sheep breeder. Social organizations were almost non-existant in his locality and, aside from family and friends, his social life was limited. But business organizations were another matter, even though farflung. The infant organization for sheepmen in the state of Utah, the Utah State Woolgrowers Association, was conceived and born in 1906 in Salt Lake when it was 3 incorporated under the laws of the State of Utah. According to a certificate of membership left by John K, he bought 25 shares of stock in the new company at one dollar per share. The issuance date on the certificate is the 2 June 1908. It was signed by Charles B. Stewart, Secretary, and E. H. Callister, President. The number on the certificate is 64, so it is safe to say that John K was among the earliest members of the organization. Annual conventions held in Salt Lake were very beneficial via valuable information to the member sheepmen. The American Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association (organized in Pontiac, Michigan, on the first Wednesday of March, 1889) was the next affiliation made by John K. His membership certificate was dated 26th July 1910-shortly after he had established his purebred flock of ewes. It was signed by Dwight Lincoln as Secretary, and R. H. Jackson, 124 |
