Show The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Ram Sale began in 1926 as advertised in the August National Wool Grower magazine.5 Throughout the following years, that sale was rotated between San Angelo, Del Rio, and Eden, Texas, principally, and the Madsen consignments to it were on an annual basis for many years, Advertisements of the Mt. Pleasant Rambouillet Farm began to be spiced with quotations such as "When Better Rams Are Produced, We Will Produce Them", "This Is The Place To Buy Your Rams", "Our Sheep Have Averaged The Highest Prices At The Great Salt Lake Ram Sales 1924, 1925, And 1926", and "We Have Shipped Sheep To Seven Foreign Countries", John K had made it a point for some time to either buy the highest priced and best ram of the Sale or to sell it. One Rambouillet ram lamb named "I AM" was brought to the Sale in 1927 as the only entry consigned by its breeder, and attracted much attention. Regarding its sale, the magazine stated in the September issue: The National Wool Growers Association expected prices to be above last year-rnot so-*- except in a few cases. This high merit was especially noticeable in the Rambouillet offerings. The first ram lamb to be offered at this sale by A. R. Cox of Woodland, California, had excellent blood lines giving him promise of prepotency in producing the most desireable characteristics, His pedigree is reinforced and added to by a conformation that leaves little to be desired. 191 |
