Show The Coal Fork Company was responsible for bringing run-off water from melting snow banks on the higher, more distant east slope of Jordan Canyon in the east mountain range. That feat was made possible by channeling the water in a large ditch that led through a pass to allow the water to drain down the west slope of the mountain. Pleasant Creek water also drained from the west slope, but was limited The Coal Fork water drained into Pleasant Creek and was later measured and controlled by the watermaster for use on the John K Madsen Ranch and that of John H. Seely, The Mountain Tunnel Company served much the same purpose in bringing higher, more distant run^off water from the slope of Potter's Canyon through the mountain, via a tunnel, to drain into the Twin Creek channel. It was important to keep both the ditch of Coal Fork and the ditch and tunnel of the Mountain Tunnel in good repair to avoid loss of water. Every fall the ditches and tunnels were cleaned and repaired in preparation for the coming winter snow. Fall cleaning was not always a guarantee that water would flow freely when snow banks were melting, for quite often there would be a break that would require spring repairing as well. Constant checking on the tunnels and ditches was necessary. Roth. Coal Fork and Mountain Tunnel Companies found it imperative that they hire a man to ride the ditch.
