Show frugal. Both possessed a high degree of insight, a very worthwhile characteristic since a large part of their success to date was due to long range planning. Equally important was their ability to evaluate. Evaluating an operating budget each year was dependent upon conditions, and often it was hard to determine the amount of winter feed necessary for purchase each autumn while knowing nothing about what kind of weather the winter would bring. Flexible markets also complicated their planning but considering such troublesome factors confronting them in their plans they still managed to attain a high degree of success in their endeavors. The two men were not always of the same opinion on a matter, but they managed to resolve their opposite views via discussions and mediation. They were never heard to be angry with each other nor argumentative. In fact, they maintained an ideal relationship that many fathers and sons would have envied - as well as sons-in-law, The business that John K had built from nothing at all was almost sacred to him since it was his own brawn and brain child, and he would not turn it over to just anyone.
