Show flock consists of 1400 Rambouillet ewes, 550 head of ram lambs, and 500 head of ewe lambs. One half of these are registered and all are purebred. They are extra heavy, large boned and heavy wooled. The foundation ewes of this flock were eighty dollar ewes and my stud rams were from the best American flocks. I think this is one of the best flocks in the west and invite your inspection. - John K, Madsen The ads indicate that he first submitted the smaller one in order to move his saleable yearling lot of rams for the season in addition to those already consigned to the Sale. Then the inserted notice of cancellation had apparently thrown him into a panic and he had hurriedly written the large ad offering to sell out completely. There were no inquiries on the purchase of his entire flock, and whatever prompted him to want to sell out can only be attributed to discouragement. With the cancellation of the Sale, he must have been really depressed with the feeling that the unpredictable nature of the registered purebred sheep business was too big a gamble for him to cope with and to continue struggling with, time and again. This was something he had never spoken about to his children, so even though they knew he faced problems in his business, they were not aware of this particular situation until it was revealed in the old 1915 magazine.
