Show sold it to him, but it had been previously owned by Tidwell.7 About a dozen apple trees were growing on the lot and there was an old two-room frame house also. A wooden picket fence enclosed the lot on the north and west street sides. Tall grass grew around and between the trees and John K kept it mowed by pasturing a few sheep, as necessary. He began to dream of someday building a new house there. A HONEYMOON In June 1907, Virginia decided to accept employment offered her in McGill, Nevada. Her younger sister, Thurza, took a turn at managing the Madsen household and caring for Pearl. Three months later i Thurza and Ephraim had fallen in love and decided to marry. Since there was no one to leave with Pearl they took her along with them on the train to Salt Lake City- There they were married on the seventeenth of September. Thurza confessed later that having a four-year-old child with them when they applied for a marriage license and went through a wedding ceremony had been a bit disconcerning to them, if not embarrassing. They bought a teddy-bear for Pearl, the first she had ever seen, and it claimed most of her attention during their three-day honeymoon. Thurza and Eph lived on at John K's for the following winter (1907-1908) and Eph spent some time on the desert. They later moved to themselves. 86 |
