But their very nature denied such haphazard approaches to life and its problems, and they surely encountered plenty of those. After they found suitable solutions they were able to set their sights ahead again. The point that pleased John K most of all was that through selective breeding he had been able to make a significan contribution to increased wool yield in his sheep, and in those of other growers. As improvement had come, he saw his ewes and rams gain in popularity among range men who realized value in using his sheep for their increase in yield also. Goals had materialized well for John K but not without their price in mistakes, effort, and experience. Discouragements and sorrows had blocked his path so many times, and a man of less strength and dedication may not have continued toward a goal, or not have been able to survive in the sheep business. When successes began to fall into place for him, it was a just result of his determination, his foresight and effort. It was an indication that men like John K do not just happen, hut are produces of generations of courageous convictions, -Becoming successful and somewhat welltto^do did not necessarily mean that John K became extremely wealthy, From newspaper accounts of his good sales, people sometimes gleaned the impression that all was profit in his business, 182 |
