Show CHAPTER ONE: HIS FATHER John K's father, Niels Peter Madsen, was the second son of Lars and Bodil Nielsen Madsen, born in Swinninge, Osherred, Denmark, 17 September- 1832. He completed his education in the old village schools and worked on the family farm with his father and brothers. With the rest of his family he became a member of the Latter-day Saints (Mormon) Church on 4 December 1854. The following year his father decided to sell the farm with the consent of the family, so they could emigrate to the United States and gather with other church members in the valley of the Great Salt Lake. Niels Peter left his home on 23 November 1855, in the company of his two sisters, Margrethe and Jacobine, and two of his brothers, Andrew and Niels. Their father accompanied them to Copenhagen where he left them with his blessings, and returned home to follow them later. |
