Show ANOTHER VOW That young shepherd boy made another vow that after reaching his first goal, he would pay all of his bills when they became due. He wanted a clean slate every month-paying wages on time, along with herd bills. He detested debt and was doubly determined to pay off a mortgage whenever one became a necessity in his life. The growth of John K's business and its demands called for more hired help as it expanded. Wages were not high compared to those today, but neither were other price scales high in comparison to those of today. John K always paid the top going wage for herding and farm help--and paid the same when due. Sometimes he even helped a man out by paying before the wage was due if the employee needed the money. In emergencies, he let a man have a loan with easy arrangements for paying it back. When he had himself worked for wages at ten, twenty, and thirty dollars a month, he had known what it meant to need his money and sometimes wait for it; so, in desperation, that other vow of his had been born. To his lasting credit many personal testimonies have been borne to his family of that dependable characteristic in the man John K, throughout the years. His life saw the fulfillment of his goals and vows as he became a successful sheep breeder-^always recognizing his obligations. 180 |
