Show 105. He is diplomatic, resourceful and industrious. He inspires confidence. He is a good conversationalist, writes clearly and well and would make a geod appearance before an audience. He has had no executive experience in connection with university administration but impresses one that he has ability as an organizer and leader. DR. JOHN SUNDWALL Dr. Sundwall was not interviewed by Regent Evans or myself. He was for years a resident Professor at the University where he was known by many men now connected with the University His scholarship is high, his experience broad. I am attaching ' recommendations and opinions as to his qualifications. The foregoing are my estimates of the men interviewed. They are my opinions formed from my opportunity to observe. I believe that Dr. Storey, Professor Ketchum, Dr. Sneddon and Dr. Bunker are men of the highest quality. Their training and experience would bring to the University added and affirmative strength. With any one of such men directing the University there would be a minimum of friction and a maximum of serVice. Respectfully submitted, William W. Ray. Report of Frank Evans 39 Hon._W. E, Bay, Chairman Q£ the Special Investigating Committee for University Presi- . sity 9: Utah. (This written report will be supplemented orally, with respect to the men discussed). I left Salt Lake City on Sunday, May 15th, 1921, arriving in Chicago at 9:15 A. M. Tuesday, May 17th. Tuesday I spent at the University of Chicago and the same evening left for Washington,D. C. At the UniverSity of Chicago, I conferred at length withDr. Judd, Director of the School of Education, regarding all of our prospective candidates and was able to eliminate some of them upon his confidential report. Two members of the Chicago University Faculty had been recommended by President Judson, to-Wit, Gordon J. Laing and J. Paul Goode. VI learned from Mr. Goode that he is engaged in the publication of some important maps and similar data and at the present time he would not consider leaving the University of Chicago. |
