This collection contains bound volumes of minutes of the Board of Regents meetings, including accompanying materials, such as contracts, correspondence, meeting minutes of subordinate committees, and faculty newsletters. The Board of Regents historically served as the governing body of the University of Utah. In 1969 the name was changed to the Institutional Council (the State Board of Higher Education later adopted the name of State Board of Regents). In 1991 the Institutional Council became the current Board of Trustees. |

Show The following letter from the freshman class president Apology prom Freshman Class. was ordered ins‘erted in the minutes: June 2, 1920. President John A.Widtsoe, University of Utah. _ hOisted were flags "Some time since some class Dear Sir: on the campus flagpole by some unknown persons, presumably You denounced the act in unequivocal language freshmen. and demanded an official reparation of the thing done, by . . the freshman class. At a meeting of the class, held soon after, a resolution to the following effect was adopted by the class: "Whereas, we as members of the freshman class have had our attention called to the actions of some individuals, presumably freshmen, in placing class flags upon the flagpole in a Spirit of class rivalry, we take this occasion to express our disapproval of such acts. . We believe the Spirit which prompted the above named transgression is a commendable one, but we repudiate such methods of expressing that spirit. It is our desire to conform to the best traditions of the school, and we believe that the flagpole as bearer of our national banner should be kept sacredly and respectfully for that purpose alone. Therefore, be it resolved that we as freshmen express our regret for the thing done and pledge ourselves to use our influence to prevent any such thing happening again." As I remember, the vote on the resolution was unanimous. Very respectfully, James M. Clark, President of Freshman Class. The fbllowing form of contract for 1920-21 salaries ' was approved. old forms. This contract will take the place of the three |
