Show President Widtsoe presented the following report of the Assemdéf the Building Committee in regard to the erection of 1y - ' Hall ‘ .3 ' November 6, 1919. "To the Board of Regents of the University of Utah. U3 - ¢‘ "Dear Sirs: 1 REPORT OF BUILDING COMMITTEE ON ASSEMBLY HALL "Your Committee in a way has a difficult task in order to give this Board an adequate-conception of the difficulties in solving the problem of this building. v _ ‘ 5 *5 ‘_ pm, The impossible problem is how to build a completed assembly _g hall reasonably costing p125,000.00 for the sum of p75,000,01g Our apprOpriation is d75,000.00. For this sum we cannot can?" struct an assembly hall to seat even the present student bodyfir We are of the opinion that the assembly hall should have ] sufficient capacity to seat not only the present student to.¢a but that we also ought to anticipate a reasonable growth far_‘ the future. The architects have drawn some twelve plans or.‘ schemes for this building.- We have eliminated all of them, except the present one, either because of lack of seating. capacity or because of excessive cost. When the John R. Park Building was designed and constructed, it was with the view that its plumbing, heating and lighting arrangements could be utilized for an assembly hall. We have finally adopted a plan of joining the assembly hall to the east projection of the John R. Park Building. This is done for H pg <the sake of economy and is the most economical plan our architects have been able to suggest. This building has " i been estimated by our architects to cost completely finishedw; $125,000. For the appropriation of @75,900.00.we can erect;g the shell of this building, put in windows, plumbing, furnifié]j _ heat and light and by using benches we can s eat about hundred in the main hall and from two to three hundre fifteelt d on ' the platform. The building is designed so that a balcony tr may be constructed at a later date if that is desired . Our‘*i present student body requires a seating capacity - fifteen hundred--the present attendance is about exceeding seventeen hundr ed. (a) We recommend: The adoption of the plan for the building herewith submitted. . . (b) Using the appropriation 000.00 as far ass" it Will go for constructing the shellof of$75, the building ins'23 stal ling windows, light and hea or furnishing, benches'femi temporary seating.
