Show "The need of a library to support our Metallurgical Research Department has been felt from the beginning. One of the best investigators in the country in the field . of Metallurgy refused a position here, offered him by the Bureau of Mines, because we lacked a suitable metallurgical library. Dr. D. R. Lyon, formerly here, now superintendent (J of the U. S. Bureau of Mines Stations, still believes strongly; g that we should all unite in building up here on the campus . g in Laboratory Research the greatest non-ferrous Metallurgical the world. x But, he writes that our handicap is lack of a library. "But we feel that it is now feasible to remove this handicap to a large degree. For out of3the Betallurgical Building Fund, we expect to save about $9,000.00 to buy books and journals. Further, we believe that the best ,‘ possible use to which we can put the income from the MCGregor , endowment is the purchase of books and technical papers. l VWe have already received on account of the mcGregor We recommend that of this amount $2,500 be set aside as a loan fund to deserving students registered _ .- Fund $7,519.98. In in the School of Mines and Engineering, and that the remainderag of the amount be spent in the purchase of books and journals ' for the Utah Engineering Experiment Station, including the metallurgical Research Department. Further we believe that the future income from the mcGregor Fund, so_far as we can now see, should be devoted to the purchase of books, etc., for the Research Library.
