President Widtsoe informed the Board about the removal I Jones Herbarium éfor safe keeping of the Marcus E. Jones Herbarium to the iUniversity campus. Regent Alexander moved that the Presi- dent be given authority to make reasonable expenditures to ascertain the value of the Marcus E. Jones collection. Passed. I It was agreed that the University should properly take Columbus Day part in the Columbus Day celebration. Branch Summer Schools The advisability of establishing a branch summer school in the Uintah basin and also in the Big Cottonwood Canyon, was discussed. Regent Alexander moved that President Widtsoe make an investigation and report back his decision to the Boardéfi Smoke Investiga- tion and Agreement President Widtsoe presented the following contract in regard to smoke reduction in Salt Lake City. AGREEMENT between the United States Bureau of Mines, Salt {E Lake City, a Corporation of the State of Utah, and the Uni*versity of Utah. The United States Bureau of Mines by its duly authorized officers, party of the first part, hereinafter referred to as the Bureau, and Salt Lake City, a corporation of.the State of Utah, and the University of Utah, parties of the second part, desiring to carry on investigations at Salt Lake City, Utah, relating to black smoke, do hereby covenant and agree with each other as follows: U The Bureau of Mines, having received an appropriation of $15,000, under the Act making appropriations for Sundry Civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal year ending June 50, 1920, and for other purposes, to carry on the investigations for devising means for the abatement 0f black smoke, this investigation to be applied generally to the United States, agrees to undertake the supervision of the work herein contemplated, and to Spend as much of the above named appropriation as may be necessary to insure the in- vestigation being conducted in an efficien t and effective manner. -f |
