Show - SIERRA CLUB LEGAL DEFENSE j FUND, INC. by Ansel Adams in This is the American Earth JAMES W. MOORMAN Executive Director BARRY A. FISHER JOHN D. HOFFMAN LAURENS H. SILVER Staff Attorneys, San Francisco H. ANTHONY RUCKEL Staff Attorney, Denver January 17, 1974 Mr. John Hoffman Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund 311 California Street San Francisco, CA 94104 Re: Central Utah Project Litigation Dear John: "" The following constitutes a brief progress report on this litigation to date. Our Complaint, together with supporting requests for preliminary relief and extensive briefing, was filed January 7 in the U.S. District Court for Utah. We drew Chief Judge Willis Ritter. this a favorable draw. As you know, we consider Upon receiving the case Judge Ritter set the date of January 14 for hearing on our motion for preliminary injunction and declined to rule upon our motion for a temporary restraining order. We did not press the latter, since its only real purpose was to assure preliminary injunction hearing prior to opening of bids for Currant Creek Dam. On Wednesday, January 9, the U.S. Attorney informed us that he could not see any way he could be ready for hearing on January 14 and explored with us how a continuance could be obtained. The attached letter reflects the agreement that was reached. At the same time our discussions with the U.S. Attorney were taking place, counselors Ed Clyde and Cliff Ashton approached Judge San Francisco: 311 California Street, Suite 311, 94104; Telephone (415) 398-1411 Denver: 508 Majestic Bldg., 209 16th Street, 80202; Telephone (303) 892-6301 |
