" ' As you probably know, those statements attributed to me by that reporter were not an accurate account of what I said. In addition, those comments were made off the record and represented my personal view of the situation. I consider it highly unethical of that reporter to have printed remarks made out of context and having distorted and embellished upon what I said. Some notice to that effect was printed in the October 24 Salt Lake Tribune. I hope that you will recognize that I have never personally attacked any public officials or others with whom we have differences regarding environmental issues. In spite of numerous attacks upon me and the Sierra Club, I have refrained from responding at a personal level. Certainly, we have had our differences, but I hope that such conflicts can be handled without resort to personal villification. Again, I hope that you will accept my sincere expression of regret at this incident and look forward to continued cooperation between your office and the environmental movement. Sincerely yours, /CytU^t/ C i David C. Raskin, Ph.D. Conservation Chairman DCRrpm |
