Show 7278 Cooley- D 5258 CROSS EXAMINATION BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Cooley, how much running that did you figure from Castle creek to Moab? A How much lumber? Q How much running time, how long did it take you? A Well, sir, it took at the way from two and a half to three hours, from two and a half to three hours in the spring of the year when the river was flush; at the low water we have taken as high as ten hours to make the trip down. Q On the ten hours, what caused delay? A The slow water; there are stretches of water between Castle creek and Moab where the river probably won't run over a mile or a mile and a half an hour at low water. Q Do you know the character of this lumber, what kind of lumber it was? A It was long- leaf yellow pine, all of it. Q What grade? A It would probably grade around No. 2 common. Q Do you know how much No. 2 common was worth in Moab in 1897? A I think that Mr. Branson got about twenty- two dollars a thousand in Moab for that lumber, at that time at Moab. Q Would that price also obtain in the years 1902 and 1903? |
