Show 4802 Gentry- D 2816 Q Did you maintain a camp that year up there? A Yes sir. Q At what point? A We were camped at what is know as Daniel's ranch at that time, about a mile below the mouth of Split Mountain canyon and on the left- hand side of the river down. Q From what point did you get your supplies for this camp? A Jensen, Utah. Q What is the character of the land in and about Split Mountain canyon, -- the vegetation, and so forty? A Well, through the Split Mountain canyon, the canyon proper, about four miles long, that is very rugged and broken; it has a sparse growth of vegetation and timber, high juniper and pinon, fair growth through the canyon; leaving the canyon to the west, the country opens into an agricultural district; to the east it is very rugged, mountains, covered with juniper and pinon timber. Q Is the timber of any size up there? A No; that is generally termed scrub timber. Q Not big enough for commercial purposes? A It is only used for fence posts, and something like that, no large enough for saw timber. Q Did you observe any other boats on the Green river in and about that neighborhood except the one that you had? |
