Show 4713 Moore- D 2727 Q And then ran west how far? A To the west boundary of township 11. Q To the west boundary of township 11? A Yes. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q You began, then, on the Navajo reservation line? A No; I think the Navajo reservation line is supposed to be the 110th meridian; we didn't establish that, but it was the range line between 17 and 18. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Did you personally cover all of that country, all that forty- two miles in and between the San Juan river? A There was an associate with me each winter; we worked in conjunction. Q Did you see enough of that country so you could describe the character of it? A I believe I did. Q Tell me what kind of country it is. A It is quite sandy, great deal of surface rock. Q Was there anybody living in that particular part that you surveyed on that trip? A At the Moonlight trading post there was a family, and about a mile or so below their place there was one homesteader; that is the only people that were living there, to my knowledge, outside of Navajo Indians. |
