A That is a very rough, broken country, with a sparse growth of vegetation; it is fit only for grazing; there is very little agricultural use made of the country; some few little ranches. Q there any people living in the country in 1917 when you were there? A I don't believe there was a permanent residents east of the Paria. The country was used mostly for winter grazing of sheep at that time. Q On that trip did you get over as far as the Colorado river? A I did. Q Did you enter a boat on the Colorado river? A I rode over on horseback from one of our camps juts to the shore of the river and came back. Q Do you recall what wash or creek you came down to the river on? Q Well, we drove from Kanab east about forty miles to the Paria; then we went down the bed of the Paria by wagon about six or eight miles, then across a broken bench, I think it is termed Clark bench, then we struck another stream or wash |
