Show 4792 Miller- D 2806 cultivation at that time? A I don't think he did. Q Were you the chief of that party, Mr. Miller? A I was. Q Was it necessary for you to maintain contact with your camps on both sides of the river? A I was always at the camp; it was located on the west side of the river, and that was my headquarters; when it moved, I moved over with it; so I was always in the camp. Q Did you cross back and forth from the west to the east side? A No; I surveyed on the east side, then moved over and surveyed the west side. Q While you were in there on the Green river did you ever have occasion to cross the Green river? A I did. Q At what point? A At Wimmer's ranch, about a miles east of the mouth of the San Rafael river. Q How did you cross? A I made a ford -- or located a ford across this river. Q Did you take your whole party across? A I did, and equipment. Q Do you recall whether it was necessary to swim the stock or not? A It was not. |
