Show 4829 Swanholm- D 2843 Q One of the boats, or both of the boats that took down there with you, were they used in your operations? A One was used all the time, one or the other was used all the time. Q How was that camp supplies? A That camp was supplied, with the exception of a few items that I took down this first trip, supplied entirely by truck and pack train from the Indian creek road to the camp on Salt wash. Q Where were those supplies purchased? A I can't be definite about that; I think they were purchased a Moab or possibly Monticello, one of the two places. Q Were you in a boat on the river frequently? A The little boat, I was on that almost daily with the exception of Sundays during the progress of the meander work. Q Was the operation of that boat with reference to sandbars practically the same as it was at these other two places, or if it was any different, just tell me how. A The lower portion of the river is different in this respect, that I encountered more submerged rocks; the upper portion of the river where we would have delays would be occasioned usually by the bars; the lower portion of the river quite frequently we would hit a submerged rock, the propeller |
