Show 4629 Weber- 2643 A I came from Ouray by way of Bluff, San Juan county, down the white canyon on to the Colorado river. Q How did you get from Bluff to white canyon? A With pack outfits. Q I mean, was there a regular road there? A Very dim; you can distinguish it here and there along the line, what they call the old Mormon trail, we went by. The difficulty is to get water. The road is so badly obliterated we had an awfully hard time finding watering places for our stock, and ourselves, too. Some places we had to go down steps; there is Indian steps they chipped in the rocks; you go down and pull up a bucket or water and give it to your animals. Q How long did it take you to go from Bluff to the Colorado river at white canyon, do you remember? A Yes sir. Q How long? A He was two days and a half. Q We that crossing at the foot of white canyon then a recognized ford across the river? A Yes sir. Q Across the Colorado? A Yes sir; that is where all the travel went between the two counties; we had occasion to go that way; they had quite a good- sized boat there, they ferried across the whole outfit, |
