A There was a rapid just below the entrance of Trachyte canyon. Q That is a rapid known as trachyte rapid? A Yes sir. Q Were you on the Colorado river in the neighborhood of Hall's creek at any time? A I was never in there to the river itself; I was on a survey on the north side, but it didn't touch the river; it stopped, I would imagine, a mile or so north of the canyon rim. Q Approximately how much land did you survey in and about Hall's creek? A About two- thirds of the township surveyed near Hall creek, including Hall creek. Q What is the character of the land there? A The land in Hall creek itself was rather a gentle slope; part of that could be put under cultivation. Baker, the owner, was doing it then. The land on both sides was sand rock, barren sand rock. Q Can you give me the approximate size of Baker's ranch? A Baker's ranch under cultivation at that time was only |
