Show 4560 Kirkpatrick- D 2664 Q What did you see there that indicated that there had been irrigation? A Well, there was an abandoned pumping plant at the mouth of the canyon, and the remains of an irrigation ditch. Q How far above Greenriver? A Well, it wasn't but a few miles, may have been three or four, may have been five or six, I am not certain. Q What was the appearance of the irrigation ditch? A It was not in a very good state of repair, as I recall. Q What do you mean by that? A Apparently had not been used for some time. Q What was there in its appearance that indicated that it had not been used? A Well, as I remember, the banks were not in a good state of repair, and I think there was vegetable growth in the ditch. Q Tell me about the character of the country from that point on up to McPherson's ranch. A Very rough and broken, high ledges, cliffs; the ledges came right down to the river, so there is no valley width in there; the water is right at the base of the cliffs and ledges. At McPherson's ranch, though, there is a little irrigated land, possibly one hundred acres. Q is this McPherson's ranch down in the canyon? A Right in the canyon along the water, along the river. |
