Show Inside Out, 189 When Mom came home, Terra didn't say anything about the Academy. She didn't say anything about anything. She did her homework and then got ready for bed. While Mom was still in the kitchen, Terra came in and kissed her goodnight, something she hadn't done in a long time. Mom looked surprised, then smiled. "Have a good sleep," she said. Dad was still watching TV in the bedroom. Terra went into her room and got the letters. Her heart pounded. She went into her parents' bedroom. Dad was asleep. She had been planning on putting the letters on the sink in their bathroom after telling Dad goodnight, but this made things lots easier. She carefully placed both letters on her mother's pillow, then went to her own room and climbed into bed. Of course, she couldn't sleep. She listened to her mother in the kitchen. After a while she heard her mother head down the hall into her bedroom. Then there was silence. Terra played out her mother's actions in her mind. She wouldn't see the letters at first. She would go into the bathroom, brush her teeth, put on her pajamas. Maybe she wouldn't even see the letters at all, but would hit her cheek on them when she climbed into bed. It was silent for a long time. Maybe she slept a little. After what seemed like forever, she heard a soft knock on the door. "Come in." |
