Show Inside Out, 170 Chapter 35: Andli Terra and I were sitting in a corner of the dance room eating lunch. Technically we weren't supposed to have food in there, but no one had ever checked on us and we were very careful to clean up after ourselves, so I didn't feel bad about it. Right in the middle of a bite of my sandwich I thought about what a hypocrite I was-so virtuous about not wanting to help Denver cheat, but not blinking about eating in the dance room. I decided I could make myself crazy trying to sort out what's right and what's wrong in this world. It made me really happy to be eating lunch with Terra. I liked to hear her talk about people. She seemed to really watch them closely. "Toby Winder is insecure," she said. "How do you know?" I asked. "Watch how he waits until Denver or Sadie says something, and then he agrees with them. He's just a wannabe." "I hadn't noticed that before." "Yeah. And Sadie has a crush on Denver." I didn't respond. With as closely as she watched people, she had to know that Denver was, well, a Person of Interest to me. She was looking at me. "I know you like Denver," she said. I didn't answer. What could I say? I wished she wouldn't talk about him. "I've known him for a long time," she said. "He goes to my church. Or at least he used to." |
